Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has told the media that he is looking forward to the second city derby as Villa host Birmingham City on Sunday afternoon.
Villa will go into the match as favourites, coming off the back of a 3-0 away win over high flying Derby County, but Garry Monk will have his players believing they can upset the odds at the weekend.
Ahead of his first second city derby though, Smith insists he is excited.
”It’s an enjoyable week and one we’re looking forward to.’’ Smith told avfc.co.uk.
“I’ve said before that our home record at Villa Park is very good and that needs to continue.
“That’s been the big thing over the past two weeks – we’ve not just being looking towards the Birmingham City game, we’ve also looked at Forest and Middlesbrough, too because these games come thick and past.
“A lot of momentum can be gained. And again, it’s the performances that get the results. We have to make sure our performances are spot on.
“Momentum builds – once you have it with you, you can become unstoppable at times. We certainly want to get that.”
The two sides face off on Sunday afternoon at Villa Park with a 12pm kick off to see who can claim the early season bragging rights.
