Aston Villa have informed interested clubs that Ian Maatsen is not for sale this summer, following an approach from Manchester United.
Manchester United have enquired about the Dutchman’s availability, following Aston Villa’s signing of left-back Matteo Ruggeri from Atletico Madrid.
However, Aston Villa have said Maatsen is ‘untouchable’ this season and a key part of the club’s project.
The Villans have no intention of losing more first-team players this summer, after a transfer window of upheaval.
Villa have lost six of the players who started their Europa League final win over Freiburg in May to rival clubs, following Ollie Watkins’ £51m move to Al-Hilal at the weekend. Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans, Lucas Digne, Ezri Konsa and Emi Martinez have also left Villa Park.
Manchester United had earmarked Maatsen as a potential option for defensive depth, reports Fabrizio Romano, as the Red Devils look to sign a left-back before the deadline.
