Aston Villa’s McGinn explains how hard it is to play against ‘relentless’ Liverpool

Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn has explained how difficult it is to play against ‘relentless’ Liverpool after the club’s 2-1 defeat to the league leaders at Villa Park.

Jurgen Klopp’s side came-from-behind late on to secure a valuable three points and maintain their six-point advantage over Manchester City at the top, Andy Robertson heading home an equaliser before Sadio Mane’s stoppage-time winner sealed victory.

Villa had frustrated their visitors for the majority of the contest before succumbing to a heartbreaking late defeat, and McGinn admits it proved too difficult to keep a ‘relentless’ Liverpool side at bay.

“I’m gutted,” said McGinn.

“You’re playing against the champions of Europe and they could be the champions of England this year.

“They just keep going and probably tired us out too much right at the end.

“Chances were coming and we were just trying to keep them at bay but the ball just keeps coming back at you.

“They are relentless. It was the same with Man City last week, they just drain you mentally.

“You try your best to press them but they are top teams and full credit to them.”
