Aston Villa have joined a number of Premier League clubs in expressing interest in Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby.
Diaby is expected to leave the Bundesliga side this summer and has been tracked by several Premier League clubs, with Arsenal, Newcastle and Manchester United among the sides to have monitored his development at Leverkusen.
Aston Villa are now considering an approach for Diaby, though will need to break their transfer record to sign the winger. The Daily Mail are reporting that Leverkusen value Diaby at £50m, a deal that would surpass the £38m spent to sign Emi Buendia from Norwich in 2021.
Diaby scored 14 goals and provided 11 assists in 48 appearances across all competitions for Leverkusen last season and has earned nine caps for France since his debut for the national side.
The winger is comfortable on either flank and has also featured in a centre-forward position at Leverkusen since leaving Paris Saint-Germain for Germany four years ago.
Arsenal had been considered frontrunners to sign the Frenchman as Mikel Arteta looks to add another attacking option, but Villa are now preparing a move for Diaby as the club look to strengthen ahead of a European campaign in 2023/24.
Villa have already confirmed the free transfer signing of Youri Tielemans from Leicester and have agreed a deal to sign Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres.
