Aston Villa hold ‘initial talks’ for free agent Wilson

Aston Villa have held initial talks over a deal to sign Fulham winger Harry Wilson as free agent in the summer.

Wilson’s contract at Craven Cottage expires at the end of the season and the Welshman is keen to assess all options before deciding on his future.

The 28-year-old has been in exceptional form this season, scoring nine goals in the Premier League and assisting six more. Since December, only Erling Haaland and Bruno Fernandes have been involved in more goals than Wilson.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Aston Villa have held initial talks, in a bid to persuade Wilson to move to Villa Park.

He is seen as a Premier League proven and cost-effective option to bolster their squad, as Unai Emery’s team continue to deal with financial challenges.

Villa incurred an estimated pre-tax loss of £82million (€94m) for the 2024-25 campaign in their recent submissions to UEFA, the third consecutive campaign the club have posted a loss.

Wilson could arrive as a potential replacement for Donyell Malen, with the right-winger leaving for AS Roma in the January transfer window.

However, Villa are expected to face strong competition for Wilson with Leeds United and Everton among a long list of clubs interested.
