AS Roma head to Como on Sunday aiming to reclaim outright first place in Serie A from Inter Milan.
Under Gian Piero Gasperini, Roma have made a strong start to their league campaign. They sit at the top of the table with 13 points and are yet to lose in Serie A, combining an attacking return of 14 goals with just three at the other end. Their recent run included four straight victories—4-0 over Fiorentina, 4-0 against Lecce, 2-1 versus Atalanta, and 2-0 away to Torino—before they were held to a competitive 2-2 draw by fellow title contenders Inter Milan.
AS Roma team news
Roma arrive with several fitness problems following the international break. First-choice goalkeeper Mile Svilar will miss at least a month after suffering a stress fracture in his finger, meaning Pierluigi Gollini is set to deputise in goal.
The midfield is also affected, with Bryan Cristante unavailable because of knee inflammation. That could open the door for Marten de Roon to make his first start, likely alongside Manu Koné.
At the back, Konstantinos Koulierakis is still sidelined, although Evan Ndicka is available and expected to play a key role in the back three.
There is better news in attack, where in-form forward Donyell Malen has recovered from a small knock and should lead the line. Wing-back Wesley França has also been given the all-clear to feature.
However, Gasperini may choose to leave Argentine pair Leonardo Balerdi and Matías Soulé on the substitutes’ bench, with their recent international travel likely to be a factor in his selection plans.
