Mikel Arteta wants Arsenal to secure the long-term future of Bukayo Saka after sealing a new contract for William Saliba.

Saka’s current contract expires in 2027 and Arsenal have been in negotiations with the player’s representatives over a new deal.

Arsenal this week announced the signing of Saliba on a new long-term contract, a huge boost to the North London side.

The France international has been named in the PFA Team of the Year in three consecutive campaigns and had been attracting interest from Real Madrid.

Arteta next wants Arsenal to focus on Saka as the club look to tie down their best players.

“I would love that. As a player he is extremely happy and proud to be at the football club. Everyone knows how important Bukayo is for us,” Arteta said ahead of facing Newcastle this weekend.

On Saliba’s deal, Arteta said it was a good sign for Arsenal that the club’s key figures wanted to remain at the Emirates.

“It’s great to see so many players willing to stay,” Arteta said.

“He is very impressive for his age because sometimes we tend to forget. It’s his consistency and the way he has matured as a person. Year after year he has built a partnership, with Gabriel especially, but the back line and the keeper.

“Every time I sit with a player and I see what their intentions are its that they want to stay with us. We don’t take it for granted. It means the club are doing really well to make players and staff feel valuable.”
