Mikel Arteta says Arsenal’s owners are ‘fully committed’ to and has praised the latest phase of the club’s rebuild.
Having invested a club-record £142m on a host of new signings last summer, Arteta has again been backed heavily during the current transfer window with the Gunners the highest-spending side in Europe’s top five leagues at present.
Arsenal have spent significant sums to bring the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Fabio Vieira and Oleksandr Zinchenko to north London and Arteta insists the club’s spending on young players is geared towards long-term success.
“If you look at how all the teams have done it (in the transfer market) and where we were, there was a transition moment where that has to change at some stage,” he told Arsenal.com.
“Look at where we are investing the money. We have made big investments, but investments for the future, with huge talent. We have to have the possibility in the future to have the squad that can sustainably be financed by itself. That’s the objective.”
Arsenal’s owners, the Kroenke family, have proven unpopular during their time at the helm, with the Gunners’ fans have staged past protests in a bid to oust the Americans.
However, Arteta has praised the club’s owners for their recent backing and believes the arrivals at Arsenal prove the Kroenkes are ‘fully committed’ to the project at the Emirates, as the north Londoners look to secure a Champions League return and compete for major trophies.
“I’ve been really impressed,” he added. “They were here for two days, we had a lot of time to sit down in a really relaxed way to talk about football and talk about sport in general.
“The vision that they have, the commitment and as well the level of understanding they have of the sport in general is fascinating. I can tell you that I have never seen ownership at that level so committed, close and engaged to bring this club where we want it.
“They show (it) with facts and acts, and their presence here as well.
“I guarantee you that they are fully committed, engaged and really looking forward to taking this club to the top.”
