Arteta admits Partey signing has created a ‘buzz’ at Arsenal with Ghanaian keen to start Man City game

Mikel Arteta says the signing of Thomas Partey has created a ‘buzz’ at Arsenal and revealed the deadline day arrival is keen to start this weekend’s clash at Manchester City.

Arsenal secured the signing of the midfielder from Atletico Madrid on the final day of the summer transfer window, activating the £45m release clause in the contract of the Ghana international to bring him to the Emirates.

Partey has starred for the Spanish side in recent seasons and his signing has been greeted by a feverish excitement amongst the north London side’s supporters, with Arteta admitting there is a ‘buzz’ around the club and revealing their latest exciting arrival is ready to play this weekend.

“He will need to go quickly,” said Arteta at his pre-match press conference. “He wants to play, we will see. You see players adapting really quickly and others taking a long time.

“I’ve seen the buzz around the place. The fans are really happy, I’ve seen some really positive reactions. The same with the team and staff. We have rated him for a long time.”

Arsenal have made a positive start to the new season as they bid to build on last season’s FA Cup success, the Gunners currently sitting in the Champions League places after winning three of their opening four fixtures.

Arteta admits he has been pleased with their progress and is confident in his side’s ability to continue improving, though refused to make any bold predictions over what the Gunners can achieve this season.

“I’m confident in what we’re doing,” he added. “It’s very early to say where we will be at the end of the season. A lot of things have to happen, a lot of improvement has to be made from us as a team.

“We know what we have to do, we know the level of competition we are facing in this league. We are happy with the recruitment that we’ve done in this transfer window and we need to get better and better every week.”
