Arsenal are in desperate need of defensive signings this summer, and have now turned their attentions on signing former Manchester United centre back Jonny Evans.

Evans left Old Trafford last season after failing to impress Louis van Gaal and was shipped off to West Bromwich Albion for around £8million. However, the Northern Irish defender saw an upturn in form under Tony Pulis and is now being targetted by Arsenal.

According to the Sunday Mirror, Arsene Wenger has targetted the defender after a string of impressive displays for the Baggies last season, where he made 34 appearances in total, before his form continued for Euro 2016 minnows Northern Ireland this summer.

Arsenal have been rocked by the news that German defender Per Mertesacker will be missing for four months and are now scouring the market for an experienced defender, and a deal to take Evans to the Emirates would be worth around £15million.
