Arsenal are still monitoring the situation of Alexander Isak as the club look to sign a striker.
Isak is one of the leading names on Arsenal’s shortlist of potential options and the Gunners are keeping a close eye on the forward’s situation at Newcastle. Despite discussions over a new deal at St James’ Park, there has been no breakthrough in a renewal.
The Sweden international has scored 40 goals in 78 appearances since joining the Magpies in a £63m club-record deal from Real Sociedad. He became the first Newcastle player since Alan Shearer to score 20+ goals in a Premier League season in 2023/24.
Isak has scored in each of his last four appearances for Newcastle across all competitions, including the winner when the Magpies beat Arsenal 1-0 in the Premier League earlier this month.
Newcastle value Isak in excess of £100m and the 25-year-old is contracted at St James’ Park until 2028.
Sky Germany are reporting that Arsenal’s interest in signing the striker will hinge on who replaces Edu, following the former sporting director’s departure from his role at the Emirates. Chelsea have also been named as suitors of Isak.
During the international break, Isak was coy about his future when speaking to Fotbal Skanalen: “Throughout my career, I have never talked about or really commented on the move rumours during the season. There have been many such years where it has been talked about. It doesn’t affect me.
“The only thing I can say is that a lot of information and rumours often come out. Much of what I read is not true. So that’s about all I can say about the whole thing.”
