Arsenal have been told by Atletico Madrid that defender Marc Pubill is ‘untouchable’ this summer after an enquiry.
The North London side are searching for defensive reinforcements amid William Saliba’s injury, with contact made for Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa and Bayer Leverkusen’s Jarell Quansah.
Mikel Arteta wants a defender that can cover right-back and centre-back to improve his squad’s depth. Pubill has also been explored as an option, though Arsenal’s interest has been shut down by the Spanish side.
Diario AS are reporting that Atletico have informed Arsenal that Pubill is not for sale, despite the imminent arrival of Cristian Romero from Tottenham Hotspur. Arsenal had been impressed by Pubill’s Champions League performance against them last season as the teams met in the semi-finals.
The 23-year-old made 36 appearances for Atletico last season and was part of the Spain squad that won the 2026 World Cup this summer, alongside Arsenal trio David Raya, Mikel Merino and Martin Zubimendi. Pubill made three appearances for La Roja in North America.
