Arsenal will launch a bid Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho according to reports in Portugal.

It is not the first time that the Gunners have been linked with the Portuguese midfielder, having being linked with making a move during the 2014/15 season. Back then, they had a bid of €23m rejected.

According to Record, Arsene Wenger has rekindled his interest in the 25-year-old and is preparing to make another bid, higher than their offer two years ago.

The midfielder has a €40m release clause in his contract with the Portuguese club, although it is claimed that club president Bruno de Carvalho is prepared to accept an offer of around €30m.

Newcastle and West Brom have been linked with also having an interest in signing the 6’1″ midfielder, but the player himself is hoping to complete a move to the Emirates having supported the club as a boy, and idolising club legend Thierry Henry.

Carvalho has made 37 appearances and has scored one goal for Portugal, and was involved in the triumphant Euro 2016 campaign last summer.
