Unai Emery has confirmed that Petr Cech will start in goal against Chelsea, despite seemingly struggling with his tactics during their Premier League opener.
Despite spending £20 million to sign goalkeeper Bernd Leno this summer, former Chelsea ‘keeper Cech was picked to start the Gunners’ opening Premier League game last week against league champions Man City.
Arsenal lost that game 2-0, with Cech looking uncomfortable with the ball at his feet on a number of occasions, as he and his teammates struggled to cope with Pep Guardiola’s high pressing side.
There were a number of nervy moments for the former Czech international, but new Gunners boss Unai Emery told reporters today that the 36-year-old will be once again entrusted with the gloves for his latest return to Stamford Bridge:
“For Saturday, the decision for me is easy. Petr Cech can continue to start the match, I believe in him,” Emery told his pre-match press conference.
“If [in the future] Bernd starts, I believe in him also.”
