Arsenal have announced that midfielder Granit Xhaka has signed a new long term deal at the Emirates.
Switzerland international Xhaka signed joined the Gunners for £35 million in the summer of 2016 from Bundesliga side Borussia Mönchengladbach, and was a favourite of former boss Arsene Wenger, playing 37 out of 38 games in the Premier League last season.
Although it’s fair to say that Xhaka has divided opinion among both Arsenal and Premier League fans in general, it seems that the London club’s new manager Unai Emery is a big fan and the Spanish coach has voiced his delight at the 27-year-old signing a new deal.
“I’m delighted that Granit has extended his contract with us. He’s an important member of the squad and is still young so will be able to develop even more. I hope he has a successful World Cup with Switzerland and comes back fit and ready for the new season.” Emery told Arsenal’s official website.
