Arsenal target Manchester United winger as Alexis Sanchez replacement

Manchester United winger Anthony Martial is a target for Arsene Wenger as he plans to replace Alexis Sanchez.

Sanchez’s departure from the Emirates is more of a case of when rather than if. Wenger is prepared to lose the Chilean for free next summer, but could be tempted to cash in during the January transfer market.

Wenger had reluctantly agreed to sell Sanchez to Manchester City earlier this summer in a £60m deal, but a failure to land Thomas Lemar on deadline day meant that Sanchez’s subsequent move to the Etihad also fell through.

However with Sanchez still refusing to sign a new deal, Arsene Wenger is once again looking for his replacement. Wenger is looking for a player who is comfortable playing out wide as well as through the middle

According to the Sunday Mirror, one of those targets is Manchester United’s Anthony Martial.

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry recently hailed the youngsters talents, saying he can become one of the worlds best:

“Anthony Martial is a far better player than I was at that age.

“He can become a world-class player.”

United beat Arsenal to Martial’s signature in the summer of 2015, with the winger having a fantastic debut season in the Premier League. However, the Frenchman’s form suffered last season as he struggled to come to terms with Jose Mourinho’s methods.

His downturn in form prompted much speculation about his future this summer, but Martial has answered his critics with a string of dazzling performances for the Red Devils this season, scoring four goals and providing four assists in his eight appearances so far. However, most of those appearances have come from the bench, meaning he has played just 285 minutes of football so far this season. A quite impressive return.

Whether Jose Mourinho can be tempted to sell one of his star players is yet to be seen.
