Arsenal target arrives in UK as transfer edges closer

Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos has arrived in the UK to finalise his transfer to Arsenal, according to reports.

The Greece international has been linked with a move to Arsenal for a number of weeks, with Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc confirming last week that a deal was close:

“It tends to go there [the deal] that’s right. But things are not completely finalised yet,” said Zorc.

However, Sky Sports are reporting today that the deal has taken a step forward and the 30-year-old has arrived in the UK to finalise his move to the Premier League.

Papastathopoulos, who uses his first name Sokratis on the back of his shirt probably much the the relief of Paul Merson, made 28 appearances in the Bundesliga last season and has won 79 caps for his country

He will become Unai Emery’s third major signing of the summer having already brought in Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free from Juventus and goalkeeper Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen.
