Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has taken responsibility for the Sunday afternoon defeat to Brighton.
The Gunners slipped to their eighth defeat of 2018 following a 2-1 defeat to recently promoted Brighton on Sunday.
The defeat means that not only have Arsenal slipped an incredible 33 points from the top of the table, it also means that they are 13 points behind Tottenham, who currently occupy the fourth and final Champions League qualification place.
With hopes of Champions League football next season having all but faded, it piles further pressure on to Arsene Wenger, who’s future has been subject to intense scrutiny in recent weeks.
However, speaking after the game, the Arsenal goalkeeper took to twitter to take responsibility for the defeat, and the soft nature of the goals conceded. He said:
“If you want to win a game away of home in the best league in the world your GK can’t concede 2 goals like I did today. It’s simply not possible … The team fought back but the damage was done.”
Arsenal will be hoping to end their run of four straight defeats on Thursday when they host AC Milan in the UEFA Europa League, their only realistic hope of a trophy, and their alternative route into the Champions League.
