Arsenal’s Mesut Özil is close to agreeing a sensational new contract at the club according to reports today.
The Daily Mail claim that they Germany international is committing his future to the Gunners by signing a new deal at the club worth a staggering £280,000-a-week to put him amongst the Premier League’s top earners.
Özil has just one year remaining on his current deal at the Emirates, and had been holding out for an eye watering £350,000-a-week offer from the North London club, however a lack of interest from other clubs has seen him lower his expectations and he is now willing to sign a new deal.
His team mate, Alexis Sanchez is in a similar contract situation to the German playmaker, but the Chilean is adamant that he is leaving after a whole host of clubs queue up for his signature.
Arsene Wenger has so far ruled out a departure for the forward who scored an impressive 30 goals in 51 appearances for the Gunners last season.
Manchester City, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain have all been linked this summer.
