Arsenal star dealt injury blow on eve of World Cup

Arsenal defender William Saliba’s World Cup has been put into jeopardy after he reportedly aggravated an injury.

The centre-back is a key player for both club and country and is coming off the back of winning the Premier League title with the Gunners.

Saliba played 120 minutes of the UEFA Champions League final on Saturday, which ended in a penalty shootout defeat to holders Paris Saint-Germain.

According to Foot Mercato (via GFFN), Saliba went into the final with a minor injury, which he aggravated during the course of the match at the Puskas Arena in Budapest.

The report claims the unspecified injury could seriously threaten his chances of playing at this summer’s World Cup, which begins on 11th June.

Saliba was due to form a central defensive partnership with Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano, but manager Didier Deschamps may be forced into a rethink, at least for the first few weeks of the tournament.
