Mikel Arteta has said Arsenal’s clash with Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League is the ‘kind of night’ the club want to experience.
Arsenal host the French champions on matchday two of the league phase in a glamour tie at the Emirates.
The Gunners began their Champions League campaign with a goalless draw at Atalanta, while PSG opened with a fortuitous late win against Girona.
PSG lost record scorer Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid during the summer but have started their Ligue 1 defence impressively, unbeaten and with 20 goals scored in just six fixtures.
Arteta, who played for PSG during his own playing career, hailed the French side as an ‘unbelievable opponent’ and said Arsenal are relishing the chance to take on Luis Enrique’s team on Tuesday night.
“We are looking forward to it,” Arteta said at his pre-match press conference.
“These are the kind of nights we want to experience against an unbelievable opponent. We are ready for it.
“Everyone is looking forward to it. We missed it for a number of years and last year was the first where we could do it. The group stage is a bit different this season. The opposition we are facing tomorrow is probably the highest level you can find European football. But it is a great opportunity for us to see how we deal with it and how prepared we are and how we can impose ourselves in this kind of context.”
Arteta gives update on Calafiori injury
Arteta provided an update on Riccardo Calafiori, who was pictured wearing a knee sleeve after landing awkwardly during the win over Leicester at the weekend. The Italian’s issue is with the same knee he injured in 2018, an injury that sidelined Calafiori for a year.
Asked if the summer signing has sustained another serious problem, Arteta said:And when asked if Calafiori was a serious injury: “We didn’t run a training sessions yesterday. Obviously he was a bit emotional after the game and let’s see how he is today.”
