Arsenal have reignited their interest in Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his defence before the transfer window closes.
The Gunners previously made an approach for the England international, but their offer of around £30 million fell short of Villa’s £60m valuation. Arsenal are now prepared to consider an improved bid, according to BBC Sport.
Konsa, 28, remains on holiday following the World Cup and will miss Villa’s UEFA Super Cup meeting with Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.
The centre-back made 48 appearances in all competitions last season as Villa won the Europa League and secured Champions League football. His versatility, including his ability to operate at right-back, is understood to have increased his appeal to Arsenal.

The Gunners have already strengthened their midfield with the £75m signing of Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes and are now turning their attention to defensive reinforcements.
However, Villa are under no pressure to accept an offer below their valuation for Konsa, who remains an important part of Unai Emery’s squad.
Arsenal have also made exploratory enquiries about Tottenham captain Cristian Romero, although a deal with their north London rivals appears highly unlikely given Spurs’ reluctance to sell to Arsenal. The Guardian has also reported that Arsenal’s bid for Konsa was rejected and that Villa value the defender at £60m.
Konsa started every game for England before the semi-final at the World Cup and is now being considered by Arsenal as they cope with injuries to William Saliba and Jurrien Timber.
The Gunners will need to significantly improve their initial offer if they are to convince Villa to sell, with negotiations expected to continue.
