Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy sensationally snubbed a move to Arsenal this week, and now Arsene Wenger has refocussed his attentions on signing a Sporting Lisbon striker, Islam Slimani.

Arsenal triggered Vardy’s £20million release clause before the start of Euro 2016, but the England striker revealed earlier this week that he had rejected the Gunners contract offer following concerns over how well he would fit in to Arsenal’s system.

Despite the blow, Wenger has quickly refocussed his attentions to Sporting Lisbon striker Islam Slimani, who slammed in 27 goals from just 33 league appearances for the Portuguese club last season. It is claimed that the 28-year had a €30million release clause, but that has since expired.
