Arsenal on the cusp of ‘something special’ as Gunners go top of the table

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta believes his side are on the verge of achieving “something special” after going top of the Premier League table.

Kai Havertz came up with a late winner against Brentford at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday to hand the Gunners three valuable points.

Declan Rice gave Arsenal a first-half lead with his sixth league goal of the season before Yoane Wissa capitalised on an error from Aaron Ramsdale to equalise on the stroke of halftime.

“I am really satisfied with the performance and the result obviously, and the manner we did it,” Arteta told BBC Match of the Day.

“It was against a team that demands a lot of emotional control and we did in a great way. We showed courage and we were rewarded.

“At 1-0 it could have been a very different game but with the goal we conceded we had to play that game, but in the end we deserved to win the game.

“That is the beautiful thing about this stadium. They support with mistakes. We had certain things we would have to overcome, we were going to do it and we fully believed we would do it.”

Arsenal could remain at the summit past this weekend if Liverpool and Manchester City draw at Anfield on Sunday. They are one point ahead of the Reds, who have two games in hand, but the north London outfit boast a superior goal difference.

“The manner of the win, 100 percent,” Arteta responded when asked if he was more pleased with going top or how they pulled out the win. “The spirit we showed. Tomorrow will be a great day to watch some fantastic games of football.

“It is not in my hands, it is a joy to be part of this league and a joy to be part of something special that we are trying to achieve.”
