Arsenal players aren’t listening to Emery says Keown

Martin Keown is worried that Arsenal’s players are too set in their ways and are not listening to new boss Unai Emery.

Arsenal have started the season in the worst possible fashion, losing their opening two games, although they have been against Manchester City and Chelsea.

However, while the results may not have been a surprise to many watchers, the manner of the defeats may well have been, with Arsenal’s defence looking as porous as back in the days under Arsene Wenger.

Former Arsenal centre-back Martin Keown has admitted that he concerned that the long-standing members of the Gunners squad are too set in their ways and are not listening to new boss Unai Emery:

“It’s about giving the message to the players and them reacting,” Keown said on BT Sport.

“In these results, he has not been able to do that. They are not taking on board the messages he is giving them.

“It’s going to be a difficult week for him. I expect them to beat West Ham next week but they need to improve.

“How many games did Arsene Wenger manage? It’s 1,000-plus games and it’s a philosophy that you cannot change overnight.

“I find it disappointing they haven’t improved further. They don’t look right and need to radically change the system and look.”
