Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil is in talks with DC United over a move to the MLS.

The American side are interested in a move for the German midfielder as a replacement for Wayne Rooney, the former England captain having announced he will leave the club to join Derby County in a player-coach role early next year.

DC United are now preparing a move for Ozil as they seek to add a new marquee addition, with Arsenal prepared to sanction the sale of 30-year-old who has failed to establish himself in Unai Emery’s plans.

According to the Express, Ozil will have to take a significant pay-cut to secure a move to the MLS, the playmaker currently the second-highest earning player in the Premier League on a deal worth £350,000-a-week.

LA Galaxy star Zlatan Ibrahimovic is currently the highest-paid player in the league, the veteran Swedish forward believed to earn around £115,000-a-week.

Finances could make a move difficult, though both clubs are hopeful an agreement can be reached for the out-of-favour Ozil who has struggled to make an impact at the Emirates in recent times.
