Roma sporting director Monchi

Monchi admits it’s a ‘pleasure’ to be linked with Arsenal

Roma’s Director of Football, Monchi, has admitted that it is a pleasure to be linked with a potential move to Arsenal.

Arsenal are on the lookout for a new sporting director as a replacement for Sven Mislintat, who has decided to quit the club despite only moving to the Emirates 14 months ago.

The North London club have been linked with Roma’s highly rated talent spotter Monchi, who previously worked alongside Unai Emery during their respective times at Sevilla, a period which saw the southern Spanish side with three consecutive Europa League titles.

The Spaniard has spotted a number of talented players during his career including Sergio Ramos, Dani Alves and Ivan Rakitic, and when asked about the current rumours about his future, he admitted that it is a ‘pleasure’ to be linked a move to the Premier League side:

“I know my name is being associated with Arsenal but I am concentrating on my job with Roma,” Monchi told The Sun.

“However it is a pleasure being linked with a club like Arsenal – but it is not first time that happens”.

The 50-year-old has also been one of the names mentioned as a candidate for the Director of Football role at Manchester United.
