Chris Sutton has described Mesut Ozil’s performance as both ‘brilliance’ and ‘genius’ after he helped his Arsenal side to a 3-1 win over Leicester in this week’s Monday Night Football.
Leicester took the lead after Hector Bellerin diverted the ball into the back of his own net after a Ben Chilwell shot after half an hour. However, the hosts were level before the break when the often criticised Mesut Ozil stroked a fine effort past Kasper Schmeichel.
Arsenal secured the three points in the second half when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netted a brace within three second-half minutes.
However, it was Ozil’s performance that left former Blackburn Rovers and Celtic striker Chris Sutton purring, describing it as ‘genius’:
“I’ll remember this night for Mesut Ozil’s brilliance. It’s been a genius Ozil,” Sutton said on BBC Radio 5Live.
“Do I think Arsenal will finish in the top-four? Right here, right now…no. I think they’ll finish fifth. But what I will say is that at the start of the season I’d have said they would have had absolutely no chance of finishing in the top four.
“This team is growing. The belief is growing. That juggernaut is starting to roll.”
The result means that The Gunners have now won 10 games in a row in all competitions, including the last seven Premier League games.
