Mesut Ozil was afforded a chance to impress by Unai Emery in Arsenal’s 5-1 win over Bournemouth, and the German grabbed it with both hands.
The playmaker opened the scoring after just four minutes, latching onto Sead Kolasinac’s through ball before coolly slotting past Artur Boruc with a smart finish.
The former Germany international turned provider as Arsenal made it 2-0 through Henrikh Mkhitaryan, but it was his goal that had Gunners legend Ian Wright purring, with the former striker impressed by the technique that he used to score.
“He kicks down on to the ball. He bounces it on purpose. He did it against Huddersfield and he kicked down on to it against Bournemouth,” Wright said on Match of the Day.
“Instead of chipping it over a keeper he bounces it over him. You can see him telling everyone what he did [while celebrating].
“It’s just such a brave finish for someone to do, it’s brilliant. It’s the Ozil.”
Ozil will be hoping that his performance against Bournemouth will help to earn the trust of Unai Emery, who has restricted him to just 14 league starts this season.
