Former Arsenal attacker Paul Merson has become the latest of his former club’s ex-players to slam Arsene Wenger and his squad.
The Gunner’s put in a dismal performance during last weekend’s Carabao Cup final, and look on course to finish sixth in the Premier League, which will be their worst placing in the league in over 20 years.
This has lead Sky Sports pundit Merson to blast the club’s players and also the man responsible for signing them Arsene Wenger.
“You tell me what they don’t need? That might be easier.
“They need a goalkeeper. Petr Cech was great, but he’s not great anymore. They need central defenders. You can always get by with full-backs, so they are not high on the agenda.
“They need two holding midfield players and they need another centre-forward. They basically need a whole new spine of the team.
“Without a good, solid spine you are never going to win the Premier League. This is not anything new either. I’ve been saying this every year for the last 10 years.
“It’s very simple because the players are not good enough to play for Arsenal Football Club. But whoever brought them in, they are not good enough either.” He said.
Despite signing a new two year deal with the club last season the general feeling now, is that Arsene Wenger will finally be replaced as Arsenal boss this summer.
During last nights 3-0 defeat to Man City at The Emirates there were thousands of empty seats, with many fans deciding to stay away in protest.
