Arsenal legend Robert Pires has declared that he already loves midfielder Lucas Torreira, despite him only starting three games for the club.
Torreira was one of Unai Emery’s seven summer signings, making the £22 million move from Sampdoria this summer, as the Spaniard identified midfield as one of the weaker areas of the squad he inherited from Arsene Wenger.
While few Arsenal fans would have heard of Torreira a few months ago, the Uruguayan impressed at this summers World Cup in Russia and was expected to be an integral part of the Gunners squad under the new manager.
Emery has taken his time to bed in his new midfielder, however, affording him just two starts in the Premier League, with his remaining five league appearances from the bench.
Despite his limited game time in the Red and White of Arsenal, Gunners legend Robert Pires has revealed that he already loves the 22-year-old, describing him as a warrior:
“I love Lucas Torreira,” Pires said. “When you play in his position you need to be a warrior, and he’s a warrior,” he told Sky Sports.
“He likes to fight a good fight with the other players and technically he’s very good. He has good ability with the ball, good vision and now I understand why Arsenal paid a lot of money for him. He’s a very good player.”
