Arsenal injury update issued ahead of Nottingham Forest clash

The Gunners currently have four players on the treatment table.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta issued an injury update on four key players ahead of this weekend’s Premier League meeting with Nottingham Forest.

The Gunners travel to the City Ground on Sunday, with kickoff set for 4.30pm BST.

Piero Hincapie, Martin Zubimendi, Christos Tzolis and William Saliba are all on the treatment table heading into the match.

Arteta was positive about their recovery from injury in his pre-match press conference, though only one of them is likely to be available against Forest.

Hincapie and Zubimendi both picked up ankle injuries in training after last week’s win over Leeds United, causing them to miss the victory over Lille in the UEFA Champions League in midweek.

Hincapie still requires another week or two before he can return to the fold, but Arteta is hopeful Zubimendi will be fit to face Forest.

“Piero is evolving really well,” he said. “The way he pushes everybody, it’s not going to take long, but he will need another week or two.

“Zubi looks much better. He already looked much better today. We have another session tomorrow and we will assess whether he is available to play against Forest. We have to see how this evolves.”

Arteta is hopeful Tzolis will be back in a matter of weeks after he sustained a muscle injury while on international duty with Greece.

“Again, he’s doing really well. Yesterday he had another MRI scan to see how the injury is evolving. It’s progressing really well. Another one that hopefully we can have back in a few weeks.”

There is still no definitive return date for Saliba, who is yet to feature this season due to a back problem. Arteta revealed he will have an MRI scan next week to assess his progress.

He said: “Again, I think next week we have another MRI with him to see how the healing process is going. But every sign so far has been very, very positive. It will be good to have him.”
