Arsenal and Liverpool’s hopes of signing Thomas Lemar have been handed a huge blow as Barcelona have joined the race for his signature.
Arsenal had a £92million bid accepted for Lemar back on Transfer Deadline Day earlier this summer, but with youngster in action for France that same day, and little time to consider his decision, he turned the move down.
It was expected that the Gunners would rekindle their interest in the upcoming January market, with Liverpool also interested in signing the youngster.
However, despite their continued interest, the task of signing him could be about to get a whole lot harder, as according to The Telegraph Barcelona enter the race to sign him.
Arsenal had lined up Lemar as a potential replacement for Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean looks almost certain to leave the Emirates in either the January or summer transfer window. If he does stay until the end of the season, he would become a free agent.
They claim that 21-year-old would find it difficult to resist the overtures of the Catalan giants.
Barcelona signed Ousmane Dembele as a replacement for the outgoing Neymar, but were instantly rocked as the former Dortmund winger suffered a severe hamstring injury which will keep him out of action for two months.
The addition of Lemar to their squad would secure a promising long term future for the La Liga side, with the likes of Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta approaching the latter stages if their careers.
