Arsenal have been given fresh hope that Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez would consider a move to the club in the January transfer window.
Arsenal explored a deal for Alvarez in the summer transfer window, but the 26-year-old’s desire to join Barcelona ultimately saw the Gunners pursuit fail.
Alvarez informed Atletico of his wish to leave the Spanish capital but saw a move to the club’s La Liga rivals blocked. He has since been reintegrated back into Diego Simeone’s squad, despite backlash from the Atletico Madrid fans, and his future is up in the air.
As a result, Arsenal are weighing another approach. According to TeamTalk, Arsenal believe their hopes of signing Alvarez have been increased by his recent situation, while Atletico’s preference is a sale abroad. Barcelona remain attentive to any situation, with Alvarez a priority target.
However, Arsenal are prepared to pay north of £100m for the Argentine, who has scored 49 goals in 110 games for Atletico.
Alvarez previously spent two seasons in the Premier League at Manchester City, where he won two league titles, the FA Cup, and Champions League among his honours.
