Arsenal are being linked with a move for Villarreal’s Pablo Fornals as a potential replacement for the Juventus bound midfielder, Aaron Ramsey.
The North London club are still in the rebuilding process following the departure of Arsene Wenger at the end of last season, although they are having to do it on a shoestring budget.
However, with Aaron Ramsey set to join Juventus in the summer on a free transfer, and Mesut Ozil distinctly out-of-favour with the former PSG boss, Arsenal are in need to bolster their midfield options.
According to Spanish publication Sport, Arsenal have identified Fornals as a potential target, with the 22-year-old being one of the rare shining lights in what has been a miserable season for Villarreal.
Fornals has three goals and four assists for the Yellows this season, who are currently in the relegation zone and are three points from safety in La Liga.
It is believed that the two cap Spain international has a release clause worth around £28.5 million, although Unai Emery has already confirmed that the club can’t afford to sign any players on permanent deals this month, with the Gunners only able to bring players in on loan deals.
Arsenal have also been linked with a move for Barcelona’s Denis Suarez and PSG’s Christopher Nkunku, while Emery also confirmed he is interested in signing a winger and a centre-back.
