Arsenal have entered the race to sign Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams, as the Gunners look to improve their forward options this summer.
Mikel Arteta has placed the signing of a wideman near the top of his priority list for the summer, with the North Londoners keen to reduce the pressure on Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.
Wolves’ winger Pedro Neto has been linked with a move to the Emirates, while Arsenal are also keeping tabs on Nico Williams, according to the Mirror. The latter has made a major impression since breaking into the Bilbao team as a teenager, making 109 appearances for the club in all competitions.
The 21-year-old leads La Liga for goal-creating actions so far this season, ranks second for successful take-ons and crosses into the penalty area, and third for assists (6).
Williams signed a new long-term contract with the Spanish side earlier this season and Bilbao will demand a big fee, with Liverpool, Aston Villa and Real Madrid also among his admirers.
The winger has already earned 11 caps for Spain, scoring twice, and is expected to form part of the La Roja squad at this summer’s European Championship.
In addition to the arrival of a winger, Arsenal are also keen to sign a centre-forward and central midfielder as Arteta’s attempt to build a title-winning squad continues.
