Emery reveals he’s ‘very happy’ with controversial playmaker Ozil

Arsenal manager Unai Emery says he is ‘very happy’ with playmaker Mesut Ozil.

The German has often divided opinion during six years at the Emirates, having been plagued with inconsistency since arriving for a then club-record £42.5m from Real Madrid in 2013.

The 30-year-old has impressed since returning to the starting line-up for the recent wins over Manchester United and Newcastle, and Emery says he is pleased with the midfielder’s contribution.

“I’m very happy with him,’’ Emery told his pre-match press conference.

”I think the team has a good atmosphere, good spirit with each player helping us with their qualities and good behaviour.

”That’s the spirit I want, they are doing that, and Mesut is like the others [in that regard].”

Arsenal travel to face Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday, looking to continue their push for a top four finish.

Granit Xhaka and Laurent Koscielny are both injury doubts, though Aaron Ramsey is fit to play having been substituted during the win over Newcastle with a groin strain.
