Emery: It’s not easy to sign players in January

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has admitted that it is difficult to sign players during the January transfer window.

The Gunners boss has previously stated that he would like to strengthen his squad this month, although his club won’t be signing any players on permanent deals and will instead have to utilise the loan market.

“In this transfer period it is not easy to take players that can help us with better performances than we have now,” Emery told a pre-match press conference today.

“The club is working for different possibilities but it is not easy.

Arsenal have been heavily lined with a move for Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez, but Emery wasn’t giving much away when asked about a potential deal for the 25-year-old Spain international

“They are private conversations [on Denis Suarez]. I don’t want to say to you what these conversations are.”

Arsenal currently sit in fifth place in the Premier League table, six points behind fourth placed Chelsea, and welcome Maurizio Sarri’s side to the Emirates this Saturday evening for a game that will have a massive impact on their chances of finishing in the top four this season.
