Arsenal made it six wins in a row by beating Championship side Brentford 3-1 tonight at the Emirates in the Carabao Cup.
Striker Danny Welbeck scored a first-half brace to put the Gunners in a strong position going in at the break. Brentford attacker Alan Judge would pull one back for the visitors in the 58th minute with a superb free-kick, although in-form frontman Alexandre Lacazette came off the bench to score a third goal in stoppage time to seal the win for Unai Emery’s side.
One player who particularly caught the eye was full debutant 18-year-old attacking midfielder Emile Smith Rowe, with Welbeck admitting after the game that a few of the Arsenal players were surprised by his excellent showing after seeing his ability day in and day out in training,
“He’s a great player, we see it every day in training and he’s had lots of great performances in the under-23s,” Welbeck told Arsenal’s official website.
“We see the ability when he has got, and everyone has welcomed him and tried to give him advice and he has a lot of talent. We hope to see a lot more of him in the first team.”
