Massive blow for Arsenal as Arteta confirms Partey likely to miss North London Derby

Arsenal have been dealt a massive blow following the news that Thomas Partey is expected to miss this weekend’s North London derby through injury.

The summer signing has not featured since being substituted at half-time during the 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa earlier this month, though the club have now discovered the extent of the thigh injury is worse than first feared.

The absence of the Ghana international is a major blow for the Gunners who have disappointed so far this season, yesterday’s 2-1 defeat to Wolves at the Emirates their third in succession at home and confirmed their worst ever start to a Premier League season.

Mikel Arteta has now confirmed that Partey will miss ‘the next few games’ with a ‘significant injury’, including Sunday’s crucial clash against league leaders and north London rivals Tottenham

‘He had an injury very early in the game [against Aston Villa], he wanted to continue the second half,’ Arteta said at his post match press conference.

‘We knew it was a significant injury. He’s done very well and he’s working very hard, he wants to be available.

‘Hopefully we can get him back soon but it’s an area we need to be careful and we need to be protective with the player.

‘I don’t think he will be with us in the next few games.’

Arsenal currently sit 14th in the Premier League having lost five of their opening 10 league fixtures, the Gunners next returning to Europa League action when they host Rapid Vienna on Thursday night.
