Arsenal and Man City set to battle over Leeds teenager Gnonto

Arsenal and Manchester City are set to compete for the signature of Wilfried Gnonto, following Leeds’ relegation from the Premier League.

Gnonto was a rare positive in an otherwise disappointing season for Leeds, with the teenager having impressed following his arrival from FC Zurich last summer.

The 19-year-old scored four goals and provided a further four assists in all competitions and his performances have reportedly attracted interest from Arsenal and Manchester City.

Calciomercato are reporting that both clubs are ‘following his situation closely’, as the duo wait on Leeds to make a decision on the forward. It is unclear how relegation will impact Leeds, but sales are expected and Gnonto appears one of the club’s most valuable assets.

Gnonto also has considerable interest from Italy with Fiorentina, Sassuolo and Roma having made enquiries into signing the teenager before his departure from Zurich last summer. The forward is highly-rated in his native Italy and has already won 10 caps for the senior national team under Roberto Mancini.

Leeds signed Gnonto for a fee of less than €5m last summer and can expect to make a significant profit on the player should he leave Elland Road.
