Harry Kane has hit the ground running since becoming the Bundesliga’s record transfer during the summer, with the England captain signing for Bayern Munich in search of elusive silverware.
Kane became Tottenham’s all-time record goalscorer after coming through the academy ranks in north London, where he scored 280 goals in 485 appearances in all competitions and won a hat-trick of Premier League Golden Boots.
He became just the third player – after Alan Shearer and Wayne Rooney – to reach 200+ goals in the Premier League and a brilliant Bundesliga start has already seen Kane break records.
We’ve delved into the stats to appreciate Kane’s stunning start in Munich.
A record price-tag
Kane became Bayern Munich’s record signing during the summer after agreeing a deal to join the German champions for an initial fee of โฌ100m (ยฃ86.4m). That figure smashed the previous landmark for both Bayern and the Bundesliga, eclipsing the ยฃ68m deal that took Lucas Hernandez to the Allianz Arena from Atletico Madrid in 2019. The pressure was on for Kane to make an immediate impact.
Bundesliga record transfers
- Harry Kane – Tottenham to Bayern Munich (โฌ100m)
- Lucas Hernandez – Atletico Madrid to Bayern Munich (โฌ80m)
- Matthijs de Ligt – Juventus to Bayern Munich (โฌ67m)
- Kim Min-jae – Napoli to Bayern Munich (โฌ50m)
- Leroy Sane – Manchester City to Bayern Munich (โฌ49m)
Dream Debuts
Kane’s first appearance for Bayern came during the German Super Cup defeat to RB Leipzig, but he marked his first competitive appearance for the Bavarians in typical Kane fashion.
A goal and assist on debut helped the Bavarians to a 4-0 thrashing of Werder Bremen in his maiden Bundesliga appearance, before Kane marked his first league game at the Allianz Arena with a brace as FC Augsburg were beaten 3-1 in Munich.
Kane’s first Champions League appearance for Bayern also saw him end up on the scoresheet, as the England captan scored from the spot in a 4-3 win over Manchester United. The forward also set up Leroy Sane’s opener against the Premier League side in another productive performance.

Five-star performance against Bochum
No player in the Bundesliga has been directly involved in more goals than Kane (20) this season, with the 30-year-old directly involved in FIVE goals during Bayern’s thumping of Vfl Bochum in September.
Kane scored his first hat-trick for the German champions in a big win for Bayern, while also setting up goals for Leroy Sane and Mathys Tel. It was just the second time in Kane’s career that he had been involved in five goals in one fixture, after scoring four and creating another in Tottenham’s 6-1 win over Leicester in May 2017.
Kane’s Klassiker hat-trick
Bayern Munich’s rivalry with Borussia Dortmund is regarded as German football’s biggest game and Kane marked his Klassiker debut with a history-making performance last weekend.
Kane became the first player in history to score a hat-trick on their Klassiker debut, as Bayern thrashed their rivals 4-0 at the Westfalenstadion. It was Kane’s third hat-trick of the Bundesliga season after earlier trebles against Bochum and Darmstadt 98, with the latter of those including a goal from inside his own half and coming in his previous appearance.
He became just the 10th player to score consecutive hat-tricks in the division and the third to do so for Bayern, after Mario Gomez and Roy Makaay.

The numbers behind Kane’s dream start…
Kane’s hat-trick against Dortmund saw him move to 15 goals in just 10 league appearances for Bayern Munich this season, setting a new record for the most Bundesliga goals in a player’s first 10 games, previously held by Schalke’s Klaus Matischak who scored 13 times in 1963/64.
Kane leads the Bundesliga for both goals (15) and goal involvements (20), while he also tops Europe’s top five leagues on each metric.
Most goals in Europe’s top five leagues – 2023/24
- Harry Kane – Bayern Munich (15)
- Serhou Guirassy – Stuttgart (14)
- Lautaro Martinez – Inter Milan (12)
- Erling Haaland – Manchester City (11)
- Jude Bellingham – Real Madrid/Kylian Mbappe – PSG (10)

What records could Kane break?
Kane has 15 league goals for Bayern Munich so far this season and 17 in 14 appearances in all competitions. His best league season saw Kane score 30 Premier League goals in both 2017/18 and 2022/23. If he continues at his current rate, Kane will reach 30 league goals in early February.
Kane’s current goal-per-game ratio would also see him eclipse Robert Lewandowski’s Bundesliga goal record, set in 2020/21 when the Poland international scored 41 league goals for Bayern Munich. Lewandowski’s season saw him break Gerd Muller’s 49-year record, but Kane is on course for 50 league goals if he maintains his current form.

Kane is leading the race to finish as the Bundesliga’s leading scorer and he would become the first Englishman to achieve the feat. Only one player, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, has previously won leading scorer accolades in Germany and England.
Kane is also out in front in the race to win the European Golden Shoe, an accolade that has proven elusive to the England forward in his career to date. Only one Englishman, Kevin Phillips in 1999/2000, has ever won the accolade.
