Conte could replace Jose Mourinho at Roma

Antonio Conte could replace Jose Mourinho as manager of AS Roma with the latter expected to leave the club at the end of the season.

Mourinho’s deal with the Italian side expires at the end of the current campaign there has been no discussions over a potential extension. The 60-year-old led Roma to Europa Conference League success during the 2021/22 campaign, before the Serie A side reached the Europa League final last season.

However, Roma have not competed in the Champions League since 2018/19 and are currently tenth in the Serie A table after a disappointing start to the campaign.

Football Italia are reporting that Antonio Conte could replace Mourinho in the Italian capital, as the former Chelsea and Spurs manager plots a return to the dugout.

Conte is understood to have rejected a lucrative offer from the Saudi Pro League and is targeting a return to Serie A, where he won four league titles during spells in charge of Juventus and Inter Milan.

Conte is believed to be open to taking charge at Roma, while Napoli is also an option for the 54-year-old. The latter were crowned Italian champions for the first time in 33 years last season, but are seven points behind leaders AC Milan after eight games after a poor start under Rudi Garcia.

Garcia was appointed at Napoli during the summer after the club’s title-winning coach, Luciano Spalletti, departed to take charge of the Italian national team.
