Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmanns proposed transfer to Manchester United has taken a step closer to completion according to reports.
According to Spanish journalist Antonio Ruiz, Griezmann has notified the club’s hierarchy that he wants to leave the club this summer.
Griezmann is one of United’s top transfer targets thus summer, and recently publicly claimed that there was a 6/10 chance that he would be moving to Old Trafford. That revelation came before United’s Europa League triumph over Ajax which gained them Champions League qualification. That qualification was thought to be one of the main criteria for Griezmann to join Mourinho’s side.
The 26-year-old, who scored 16 goals in La Liga this season, has a €100m release clause in his contract with the Rojiblancos. Should United activate that clause, he would become the second highest transfer in the club’s history, just behind the £89m that they shelled out for Paul Pogba.
It is thought that the striker wants to complete the deal sooner rather than later, before he goes on his honeymoon.
