Carlo Ancelotti believes Everton’s shock home loss to Fulham last weekend was just a sign of ‘an unpredictable’ Premier League season.
Everton’s hopes of securing a top four finish were dealt a huge blow after losing 2-0 to the relegation-threatened Cottagers at Goodison Park, Josh Maja scoring twice for the visitors as struggling Fulham ended a run of 12 league games without a win.
The result leaves Everton seventh in the Premier League table, five points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea though in possession of two games in hand on the west London outfit.
Ancelotti admits his side were ‘frustrated and disappointed’ following a poor performance on home soil, the Toffees struggling in the absence of leading scorer Dominic Calvert-Lewin with Fulham deserving of the three points.
The Italian believes the setback was just the latest upset in a season that has provided plenty of shocks and surprises, however, and has called on his side to ‘find another solution to get points’ ahead of tomorrow’s clash with league leaders Manchester City.
“It’s an unpredictable season, games which seem easier than others become more and more difficult,” he said at his pre-match press conference.
“We had experience of that against Newcastle and Fulham. It’s this kind of season. We are not the only team to lose these kind of games at home.
“The only team that didn’t lose these kind of games is Manchester City.
“Of course we are frustrated and disappointed. We lost an opportunity to climb the table with this game [v Fulham] and we have to find another solution to get points.”
