‘An exciting club’ – Rangnick urges Nagelsmann to join Spurs

Ralf Rangnick has encouraged Julian Nagelsmann to consider a proposal to become Tottenham’s next permanent manager.

Nagelsmann is understood to be on Spurs’ list of potential candidates to replace Antonio Conte, who was sacked last month following an underwhelming season and an explosive interview, in which he criticised the squad and board.

Nagelsmann is without a role after leaving Bayern Munich and held talks with Chelsea earlier this month, before ruling himself out of the race amid reported reservations over the club’s recruitment.

The 35-year-old is regarded as one of Europe’s best young coaches and former Manchester United interim manager Rangnick – who worked as head of sport and development for Red Bull during Nagelsmann’s tenure at RB Leipzig – believes Spurs could be an ‘exciting’ project for the German.

“I think Tottenham is an exciting club in many ways,” Rangnick told Sky Sports Deutschland.

“They probably have one of the most modern, beautiful stadiums in the world at the moment. They have one of the best training centres that is there at the moment and Daniel Levy, who has been running the club for many, many years.

“If Tottenham really want him, then I think it would be important if a sporting director was still there to support him.

“It can be a very, very exciting story. There is room for improvement, a lot of room for improvement and yet this is not a club where the house expects you to be in the top one or two straight away.”
