Chelsea youngster Ethan Ampadu could be set for a January loan switch away from the club.
The Welsh international, comfortable in central defence or in midfield, is yet to feature for Maurizio Sarri’s side this season and several Championship clubs have expressed an interest in securing his signature on a temporary basis.
Ampadu made seven appearances for Chelsea last season, but with opportunities having been limited this time around, Sarri feels a loan move may be beneficial for his development.
The 18-year-old is rated highly at Stamford Bridge, signing a new five-year contract in September, and according to The Metro could link up with Frank Lampard – manager at Derby County – or John Terry – assistant at Aston Villa – with both men believed to have contacted their former club about Ampadu’s availability.
Having made his senior debut for Exeter City at just 15-years-old, Ampadu signed for Chelsea 2017 and made his international debut for Wales against France in November last year.
