Ruben Amorim has called Wolves forward Matheus Cunha a ‘quality player’ amid rumoured interest in the player from Manchester United.
Manchester United host Wolves at Old Trafford in the Premier League this weekend. Cunha has been a key part of Wolves’ campaign, with the Brazilian scoring 14 league goals and adding four assists. In the reverse fixture, Cunha scored direct from a corner kick against Amorim’s side.

His performances have helped Vitor Pereira’s team pull clear of relegation trouble, after Cunha turned down a January exit to help the club’s survival fight. Wolves are targeting a fifth consecutive Premier League win this weekend.
Cunha signed a new contract at Molineux in February, though the deal contains a release clause of ยฃ62.5m. Manchester United are one of several Premier League clubs reportedly considering meeting that fee this summer.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Amorim highlighted the 25-year-old as a threat for Wolves. However, he was quick to shut down follow up questions regarding transfer interest from Old Trafford.
“Wolves have many quality players like Matheus Cunha. It wonโt be easy,” Amorim said.
“I just gave the example of Cunha because I remember about Matheus scoring a lot of goals, just that.”
With Manchester United’s full focus on the Europa League and an upcoming semi-final with Athletic Bilbao, Amorim suggested he is ready to use the ‘kids’ to keep his senior names fresh.
โI have to see it,โ Amorim said. โPlayers like (Diogo) Dalot, they are always ready but today he was really tired.
โThe guys that are at risk to have an injury, we will try to save them. We will see. Itโs not the best moment or the best season to put some kids to play because again they need a strong base to really show what they can do, but in this moment we need to do it and sometimes you have surprises.
โAyden (Heaven) just played, I can be honest, because we had a lot of injuries in that moment. But today I think of Ayden as my player, so when heโs ready heโs facing competition in the team and heโs ready to play, so you donโt know.
โ(Harry) Amass did really well today, so we donโt know. Chido (Obi) when he played he played quite well.
โItโs a difficult moment, itโs not the right moment for the kids to play, but if we have to do it we will do it.โ
