Alphonso Davies set to snub Premier League clubs as transfer ‘agreed’

Alphonso Davies will not be moving to the Premier League in the summer transfer window after deciding where his future lies.

Bayern Munich have been trying to tie the left-back to a new contract, but talks have stalled amid the player’s reportedly exorbitant wage demands.

A number of top clubs have been linked with the 23-year-old amid intense speculation he could leave Bavaria this year, including Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City.

Barcelona are also said to be interested, but all of those clubs are set to be disappointed after Davies ‘reached an agreement’ to join Real Madrid, according to The Athletic.

The Spanish club and the Canadian international have reportedly been in talks in recent weeks, and even met in person in mid-February, over a potential move.

The report claims that Real told Davies not to renew his contract at Bayern, which expires in 2025. He could leave the Bundesliga champions this summer, but Los Blancos are willing to wait until next year to sign him on a free transfer.

Davies’ agent Nedal Huoseh revealed last October that “there is interest from many teams”. “I read the same articles on the internet, but in the end we will see what happens in the coming months.

“I am sure that Real Madrid can be one of the clubs that would like to sign Davies, along with several English Premier League clubs. They all want to have one of the best left-backs in the world.”

Who is Alphonso Davies?

Born in Ghana in the year 2000, Alphonso Davies is a speedy left-footed wide player who lines out for Bayern Munich and the Canadian national football team.

Davies joined Bayern from MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps in 2019 and made his debut in January of that year. He has gone on to make 180 appearances for the club, and played a key role in winning the Uefa Champions League in 2020.

He has also won the Bundesliga five times Fifa Club World Cup, two German Cups and the Uefa Super Cup during his time in Germany.
