Alonso gives update on Lacroix hamstring as after Chelsea trio pick up injuries in Liverpool loss

Xabi Alonso has provided an update on Maxence Lacroix, Moises Caicedo and Malo Gusto after the Chelsea trio picked up injuries during the club's Carabao Cup exit to Liverpool.

Xabi Alonso has provided an update on Maxence Lacroix, Moises Caicedo and Malo Gusto after the Chelsea trio picked up injuries during the club’s Carabao Cup exit to Liverpool.

Chelsea crashed out of the EFL Cup in the fourth round after losing a penalty shootout to Liverpool at Anfield. Morgan Rogers had put the Blues ahead from the penalty spot, only for another penalty from Cody Gakpo to level for Liverpool.

With the teams unable to be separated in normal time, Liverpool edged a rollercoaster shootout 6-5 on penalties to reach the quarter-finals.

A disappointing night for Chelsea was compounded by injuries to Lacroix, Caicedo and Gusto, all of whom were substituted.

“It’s too early to tell how serious it is,” said Alonso on Lacroix’s issue.

“Unfortunately he felt something in his hamstring and we need a couple of days to check what the injury’s going to be.”

Alonso was more positive on Caicedo and Gusto, who were withdrawn as part of a double substitution on 68 minutes. He said both had ‘little’ issues and is hopeful the pair could be available for Saturday’s fixture with Manchester United in the Premier League.

“The game had very intense moments,” Alonso said.

‘We knew that it was going to be physical and after we had to deal with Max, Moi had little problems. Malo as well; he had cramps. We were a little bit forced with substitutions.”
